Privacy policy

Last updated 24 October 2026

No cookies, no trackers, no forms. We don’t sell or share your data for advertising.

Who we are

This policy covers sciencein8bit.com, the home of Science in 8bit (@science_in_8bit on Instagram) and of our guide, The Animated Shorts Studio, at sciencein8bit.com/guide/.

If you have any question about your data, write to sciencein8bit@gmail.com.

What this website collects

Nothing that we can read. The site has no accounts, no sign-up or contact forms, no analytics, no advertising pixels and no social-media trackers, and it sets no cookies. The films and pictures are served from our own site.

Like every website, it can only reach you through a few services. Here is each one and what it sees.

Hosting: Cloudflare

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. To send you each page, Cloudflare receives the standard technical details every browser sends: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for and the time. Cloudflare uses them to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse, and may keep them in short-lived logs. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Typefaces: Google Fonts and Fontshare

The home page loads its typeface from Google Fonts, and the guide page loads its typeface from Fontshare (run by the Indian Type Foundry). When a page loads, your browser connects to their servers, which receive your IP address and browser details. See Google’s privacy policy and Fontshare’s terms.

Buying the guide: Polar

When you click a buy button, you leave this site for a checkout run by Polar, which sells the guide on our behalf. Polar collects your payment and billing details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card details.

Polar shares with us what we need to deliver the guide and help you with it, such as your email address, your name and the details of your order. We use them only for that: sending updates to the guide you bought, answering your questions and keeping the records the law asks us to keep.

Emailing us and Instagram

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use them only to reply and help you. We keep the conversation as long as it’s useful for supporting you, then delete it.

Links to Instagram take you to Instagram, where Meta’s privacy policy applies. If you message us there, for example for early-bird setup help, we see what Instagram shows us: your profile and your messages.

Comments and messages on our Instagram account

We answer comments on our own Instagram account (@science_in_8bit) with the help of a small private tool that uses Instagram’s official API through our own Meta app. It only works on our account’s posts and messages.

When you comment on one of our posts, the tool sees what Instagram shows us anyway: your username, your comment and its ID. We use them only to reply to you, to send you the link you asked for (for example when you comment “GUIDE”, we send it by private reply), and to hide spam or abusive comments.

We keep a short private log of the comments we answered (username, comment ID, time) so we don’t reply twice. We delete these entries after 90 days and never share or sell them.

Deleting your data

To have your data deleted, including anything our Instagram tool logged about you, send a message to @science_in_8bit on Instagram or write to sciencein8bit@gmail.com with your Instagram username and the words “delete my data”. We’ll delete it within 30 days and confirm when it’s done. You can also delete your own comments on Instagram at any time. Step-by-step instructions are on our data deletion page.

Why we may use your data

  • To run and protect the website: our legitimate interest in a working, safe site.
  • To deliver and support a guide you bought: the contract between us.
  • To answer your messages and comments, and to send a link you asked for: because you asked us to.

We don’t sell your data, rent it, or use it for advertising.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to sciencein8bit@gmail.com and we’ll answer within one month. For data held by Cloudflare, Google, Fontshare, Polar or Instagram, you can also contact them directly. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Our films are for everyone, and this site collects no personal data from any visitor. Buying the guide is for adults; we don’t knowingly hold personal data about children.

Changes

If we change how the site handles data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
